Although Spanish territory, the Canary Islands are in fact situated just off the coast of Africa. The islands are on the same latitude as Florida and benefit from a wonderful year round temperate climate, without having the constant worry about hurricanes !!!

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands measuring some 2,000 square kilometres - flying time from most European capitals is approximately 4 hours and there are now daily scheduled flights from many U.K. airports.

The history of Tenerife, like that of the remainder of the Canary islands, is tied up with the legendary lost civilisation of Atlantis. This and other legends envelop the origin of a number of islands, referred to in classical Roman writings as The Fortunate Isles.

Irrespective of the islands ancient history, there is absolutely no doubt as to the popularity of the Tenerife of today – initially attracted by the promise of good weather, whatever time of the year, the visitor is quickly overwhelmed by the striking and contrasting landscapes and the breathtaking beaches, such as the ones found at Santa Cruz, Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. There is also the superb cuisine, the extraordinary range of leisure pursuits and not least of all, the warmth and friendliness of the Canarian people – there is little wonder why visitors come back again and again to Tenerife, many of whom go on to buy a place of their own.

There are options for everyone on Tenerife – Golf Courses, Theme Parks, Shopping Centres, Nature Reserves and a rich historical heritage – The island also boasts a modern network of roads, which are safe and easy to drive on and no destination is very far away.

For those who do not drive, there is an effective public transport services with buses, known locally as “guaguas”, which are identifiable by their intense green colour. Alternatively, for those who do not want to use the bus, taxi services cover the whole island.
